The Little House Montessori aims to allow your child to find his/her own true potential. We recognise that children have an innate ability to want to learn but that it is vital that they are taught without distraction or negativity.

Montessori recognized in the child a natural curiosity and desire to learn. The Montessori materials awaken this desire and channel the child’s curiosity into a learning experience, which the child enjoys. These didactic materials promote independence and are, for the most part, self-correcting, which allows the child to progress at their own pace and with growing confidence. Children who grasp concepts quickly are not held back and those who need to take more time are not frustrated. The purpose of the material is to isolate a single concept and to lead the child through a sequence of steps. A properly prepared Montessori classroom is replete with items of equipment encompassing subjects ranging from math and language to geography and botany.

Our nursery children are giving the opportunity to explore their environment without hindrance; they can touch, reach for, smell, and listen to, to all the things that surround them. They are free to choose their own activities and develop at their own pace. And via this nurtured environment they will continue to grow into well-balanced, independent, confident and contented children. Children can work together or independently in mixed groups. There are no fixed work periods and children are able to choose their work and repeat any particular activity for as long as they like. curriculum

We run a key worker system (1:5 ratio), which ensures that each teacher is responsible for a specific group of children. This enables close monitoring of individual needs and development. It also guarantees continuity when recording and carrying out observations. Key workers are also able to liaise with parents to keep them informed of their child’s development.

Parents as Partners
We never forget that parents are children’s first and most enduring educators. We believe that when parents and teachers work together the results are positive and have an impact on the child’s development and learning. We will strive to keep parents up to date via newsletters, termly
reports, parent’s evenings and daily contact. We will always be happy to lend books or articles concerning our Montessori methods or at our parent
information evenings discuss any given area in more depth. Finally, we are here to listen to you, a successful partnership needs a two-way flow of information, knowledge and expertise.

The Little House’s curriculum also includes: Information Technology, Cooking, Craft, and Free-play, Outdoor play, Music and Movement and Physical Education. We offer a curriculum, which meets and expands upon the Early Learning Goals described in OFSTED’s booklet “Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage”.

Parents are always welcome to talk to staff on an informal basis. For a more formal discussion it is best to make an appointment. We share with parents a concern for the well-being and happiness of the children in our care and wish to do all we can to help them settle in and continue to flourish.
The Montessori classroom is separated into the following areas:
PRACTICAL LIFE
“a child’s work”, Dr. Montessori wrote is to create the man he will become. An adult works to perfect the environment but a child works to perfect himself”.

The exercises are the “beginning” activities for 2
1/2 year olds. They offer meaningful activity using familiar objects e.g. buttons, jugs, brushes, shoelaces and other objects the child might find in his/her own home. These provide adult imitation exercises, which is one of children’s strongest urges at this age. They help to perfect co-ordination and promote attention to detail. They also expand the powers of concentration and independence.
