News from Greenwich Medical Chambers

Common gynaecological complaints
Women often feel embarrassed or reluctant to discuss their intimate health problems, but at Greenwich Medical Chambers our staff go out of their way to ensure consultations are carried out with sensitivity and discretion. Patients are seen in the comfortable surroundings of our Grade II listed Georgian building by a friendly team of dedicated Consultant Gynaecologists, female nurses and sonographers. State-of-the art equipment ensures early diagnosis and treatment.

In addition to ante-natal care, Greenwich Medical Chambers offers women an extensive range of other treatments, from common gynaecological and urogynaecology complaints to infertility problems. Appointment times include early mornings, evenings and some Saturday mornings, and can be arranged through your GP or by contacting the clinic directly. Greenwich Medical Chambers is a recognised provider for all major insurance companies.

Smears These are performed by our consultants or female nurse using Thin- Prep, the very latest in smear technology.
Results are available within 24 hours.

Abnormal smears It can be worrying when the result is not entirely normal, but this need not be a cause for alarm. However, waiting for an appropriate investigation can in itself be worrying, which is why Greenwich Medical Chambers offers a speedy investigative service.

Period problems Period problems are very common-in fact up to 20% of women suffer from heavy bleeding and 25% experience significant pain-but this doesn't mean suffering in silence. Our consultants will analyse symptoms and offer specialist advice on managing the problem, with any investigations usually performed at the same visit to diagnose pelvic problems such as fibroids or ovarian cysts.

Contraception Our consultants will discuss the various options available, give specialist advice and fit coils if required.

Early pregnancy problems Up to 30% of pregnancies are associated with some degree of bleeding or discomfort, and whilst not always associated with a major problem, these symptoms can be worrying. If this occurs, please telephone us and we can usually arrange a same-day ultrasound scan which will identify any problem, or provide reassurance that all is progressing normally.

Urinary incontinence Most common after childbirth, urinary incontinence can be cured in many cases by a course of physiotherapy. If this proves unsuccessful, our consultants will carry out a specialist investigation of the bladder. With an average one in six couples experiencing difficulty in conceiving, infertility is a common problem. Greenwich Medical Chambers offers immediate advice and counselling, whilst at the same time exploring options for treatment.
